TAEKWONDO

The Korean martial art of Taekwondo is one of the most popular martial arts practiced in the world. With a focus on a strong and diverse set of kicking techniques, it has grown into a global phenomenon and became an Olympic Sport in 1988. Our Taekwondo black belts are certified directly through Kukkiwon, the World Taekwondo headquarters in South Korea.

At Walker's, we practice point sparring; a form of fighting where points are scored by making contact with controlled techniques. Point Sparring is practiced with light to mid contact with an emphasis on safety. Our students have opportunities to compete on a state and national level and one of our instructors is an AAU national grand champion in point sparring.

In addition to striking and sparring, our Taekwondo classes include forms, breaking, self defense that incorporates elements from Hapkido, and a weapons program with an array of weapons for a student to learn. At Walker's we believe in offering our students a well rounded set of skills and knowledge, allowing every student to find something that they enjoy.

Taekwondo requires a strong mind, body, and soul. Our classes incorporate physical fitness and endurance, however, we also firmly believe in instilling courtesy, integrity, and respect for others within all our students. We teach them to persevere through adversary with an indomitable spirit and we require our students to demonstrate self control both inside and outside of the school.
